FODAFO Member Organizations

FODAFO is co-owned by two member organizations: York University and Global Footprint Network.

York University

York University, through its Faculty of Environmental and Urban Change, and its Ecological Footprint Initiative is responsible for the core production and development of the National Footprint and Biocapacity Accounts. Its primary mandates vis-à-vis FODAFO are to:

  1. Annually produce a new edition of the Accounts, maintaining them according to the production standards set by the FODAFO Board.
  2. Implement methodological improvements approved by the FODAFO Board.
  3. Research potential improvements to the Accounts, including developing and collaborating with a global network of researchers.

In addition to these core duties, the Ecological Footprint Initiative also engages in related activities such as training, international partnerships, and developing applied Footprint tools.

York University is represented at member meetings by Nicole Arsenault, York University Director of Sustainability.

Global Footprint Network

Global Footprint Network is responsible for key operational, scientific, and outreach functions. Its role, in the context of FODAFO, is to:

  1. Inspire audiences to act proactively to end overshoot by design, rather than disaster.
  2. Advance the underlying science of Ecological Footprint accounting.
  3. Promote and support the use Ecological Footprint and biocapacity accounting, including the National Footprint and Biocapacity Accounts for the country and global.
  4. Running public campaigns building on the results generated by the National Footprint and Biocapacity Accounts (such as Earth Overshoot Day).
  5. Support FODAFO with the distribution of the National Footprint and Biocapacity Accounts results.

Global Footprint Network is represented at member meetings by Sarosh Kumana, Chair of the Board of Global Footprint Network. Sarosh is an entrepreneur, angel investor and sustainability advocate, based in California and Nevada.
